4 Easy Ways to Protect your Edges

 

Our hairline, aka edges, are the weakest link when it comes to hair. The strands that frame the face are more fragile. Making them more susceptible to breakage and hair loss. Besides health issues and heredity, there are a few things that can cause hair loss in women, thin edges or bald edges. Including heavy brushing, tight styles, gels with alcohol, lack of moisture and lack of oxygen access to your hairline from wearing wigs.

Many have resorted to covering up the problem with a weave or wig, while others turn to

Unfortunately, the only cure is prevention. Here are four easy ways to prevent snatched edges because, when they're gone, they're gone.

1. STEER CLEAR OF SKINNY PARTS NEAR THE HAIRLINE.
Braids, twists and locs are all great protective style options. But if your stylist catches the hair around your crown too tight your edges will suffer. All of the tension from these styles can cause stress on your hairline. So separating the hair in bigger chunks, especially around your crown will reduce the tension on the hair and prevent your edges from holding on for dear life!

2. TRY NOT TO OVER STYLE.
Protective styling can only do so much, the rest is up to you. Creating unique up-do's or pulling it back into a high ponytail can look so right, but feel so wrong. 4. WEAR A SILK OR SATIN SCARF.
You care for your hair all day, don’t neglect it at night. Wearing a silk or satin scarf or bonnet to bed will protect your hair and prolong your hairstyle. Cotton sheets and pillowcases not only soak up all of your hairs moisture. The friction between the two can leave hair weak and
vulnerable to breakage. Satin and silk are softer than cotton pillowcases. They won’t cause
friction and tension that will tug on your hairline. So investing in a silk or satin scarf, bonnet or pillowcase is well worth it.
